WHERE TO STAY IN TUSCANY – COAST, CITIES & TOWNS, THERMAL RESORTS, VILLAS & FARMHOUSES

Booking.com

The Italian region of Tuscany offers an endless choice of holiday options for every season, taste and budget. In summer and early autumn, most of the region’s guests go to the seaside resorts of the nearly three-hundred-kilometer Tuscan coast, or relax in rural villas, hotels or wineries in mainland Tuscany. In winter (that is very mild in Tuscany) and in the spring-autumn off-season, the better solution is to visit historical cities – Florence, Pisa, Lucca, Siena, etc. or relax at thermal resorts: Montecatini Terme, San Giuliano Terme, etc.; in the rural villas, golf and spa hotels, agritourism; as well as in the ski resort of Abetone.

WHERE TO STAY ON THE COAST – BEST BEACH HOTELS IN TUSCANY: Versilia, Pisa Riviera, Etruscan Coast, Maremma

Tuscany is world famous as the land of the wine hills. Equally beautiful is the 300-kilometre-long seacoast of Tuscany with the wide beaches of the fashionable resorts of Versilia, Forte dei Marmi and Viareggio, the family-friendly resorts of Pisa and the Etruscan Coast, the dunes and pine groves of Maremma from San Vincenzo to Punta Ala and Alberese, the rocks of Elba and Argentario.

WHERE TO STAY IN TUSCAN CITIES: Hotels in Florence, Pisa, Lucca, Siena, San Gimignano and Volterra

Tuscan cities are often called “time machines”. Indeed, their appearance over the past 500 years has hardly undergone any changes, and the population is often inferior to the medieval one. This is not surprising, because Italy and Tuscany primarily in the 11th-16th centuries, were the economic and cultural epicenter of all Eurasia, and only from the 17th century they found themselves on the relative periphery of historical progress.

WHERE TO STAY IN TUSCAN THERMAL RESORTS: Hotels in Montecatini Terme, Bagno di Pisa, Saturnia, Val d’Orcia, Casciana Terme, Etruscan Coast

Tuscany boasts the reputation of being the most thermal area in the Apennine peninsula. Tuscany has the largest amount of thermal and spa resorts in Italy, with a total of 39 in the region. Among them are the Baths of Montecatini, the Baths of Pisa, the Baths of Val d’Orcia, Saturnia and many others.

WHERE TO STAY IN THE TUSCAN WINE VALLEYS: landscape hotels in Chianti, Bolgheri, Montalcino – Montepulciano – Val d’Orcia, San Gimignano and the Vernaccia hills, Volterra and the wine hills of Pisa

One of the treasures of Tuscany, an integral part of its cultural and historical tradition, its pride and wealth, is wine. A trip to Tuscany loses half its meaning if it is limited solely to discovering the treasures of history and art – visiting museums and cathedrals – but ignores acquaintance with local winemaking, because most Tuscan “art cities” are surrounded by wine hills where they make their own unique wines.
